Positioned directly opposite San Francisco’s City Hall amidst a wealth of stone-clad cultural landmarks, the design of this mid-rise residential project became a thesis on the contemporary use of architectural poche (solid space). By relocating “solid” elements from deep within the typical residential floorplan (cabinets, refrigerators, fireplaces, closets) to the exterior wall, a tangible depth is created at the façade without sacrificing valuable floor area in the development pro-forma.
